Walt Disney World with my family for Emilie’s third birthday.
Half the family had the flu and it was only 50 degrees outside, but we managed to have an incredible time nonetheless.

Joe McNally writes on making a living from photography:
We shoot, teach, blog, sell fine art prints, lecture, send out proposals, have meetings, chat things up on social media, send out promos, talk with clients, send in estimates, and then re-shape those estimates, sometimes endlessly. Nothing about it is rocket science. After all that, we peer into the mailbox and see if anybody sent a check, and the perpetually imperfect calculus of this business is upon us once again.
But it’s also a miraculous calculus, at the same time. I am still tickled by the fact that I have made a career, gotten paid, put food on the table and a roof overhead by….shooting pictures. It’s still quite thrilling, actually, even at the above rates.

Some specials and films I’ve watched in the past few months:
Radioactive Wolves
PBS special about the wolf population in Chernobyl, it’s fascinating to see how well the wildlife and plant life is making it in a place deemed unfit for human habitation.
Herb & Dorothy
A story to make you love art all over again. This couple has been collecting contemporary art their entire married life and have a collection worth millions of dollars in their tiny NYC apartment.
The President’s Photographer
An oldie, but goodie, take a peek at what it takes to document the President’s entire term.
Girl Walk // All Day
A few years old, but I re-watch this pretty consistently. This film will make you dance in your seat and fall in love with New York City.
The Bang Bang Club
A fictionalized version of the lives of combat photographers in South Africa during apartheid. To call it graphic would be a gross understatement, but the story is worth every minute.

Some leaves I collected and photographed last fall and forgot to post until now.
November 2013. Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, NY.
I’ve noticed that the easiest way to be written off as a professional is to show up late. My new rule is show up 15 minutes early, it’s amazing how much more on top of it you will appear if you can get places on time.
