Last night I went to see the closing performance of Mac Premo’s The Luckiest Arab in Belfast. Bas caught this photo (top) of me from across the room.

While the performance part is done, you can see Mac’s work at The Invisible Dog March 8 - May 11. Mac is a self-described American Stuffmaker. I immensely enjoyed his show and could have listened to his storytelling for many more hours. If you have a chance, stop by and see some of the stuff he’s made.

And if you are more curious about Mac, my friends just launched Fiercely Curious which includes a Q&A with him!

The best part of working on independent projects is having a small, but dedicated crew. It took only five of us to shoot this music video for Pillar Point. Every member of this group was both talented and humble.

Jacob Krupnick
Joe Victorine
Soren Nielson
Dai Omiya
and me!

My good friend Jacob Krupnick, director of one of my favorite films, Girl Walk All Day, told me he was making another music video. He asked me if I would be willing to help. Of course I said, “Yes!,” before knowing any details. I was in charge of behind-the-scenes photos and carrying lots of things to and fro in several feet of snow and a temperature of about 3 degrees Fahrenheit.

All I can say is, “it was awesome.”

This first round of photos are of the brilliant rig our camera guys came up with to get some shots of Dai, our dancer, from above. We were there to make a video for Pillar Point’s new song Dreamin’.

The video will be released Monday and I’ll have two more sets of images to share with you before then.

You know what I miss? Foldable paper maps. I found this gem on the sidewalk in Carroll Gardens today. I’m taking it as a sign that I need to pay a visit to the west coast soon.

My CrossFit gym interviewed me about photography work, here’s an excerpt:

Kate: Tell us about your journey with your camera. Do you remember your first photograph? What did you shoot with?

Bekka: The last time I was at my mom’s house she dragged a bunch of old boxes out of the garage and asked me to go through them and get rid of anything I didn’t want anymore. While I was looking through the boxes I came across two things: my first camera and my first photography project. I was in fifth grade, and was in a special arts program through my elementary school. I don’t think it was the first time I had ever used a camera, but it was definitely the first time someone handed me a camera and basically told me, “This is a tool which can be used to tell stories.”

The camera was an all-plastic Vivitar, which is currently sitting on my desk.

I started working with Meghan from Wit & Whimsy last October taking photos for her blog. Together we have survived loads of snow and below freezing temperatures to get some of these shots.

I really like working with people that have a side project they love as much as Meghan loves W&W. She gets out of bed much earlier than is required to meet up with me before heading to her day job, and she’s always in a good mood (even at 8 a.m. and 3 degrees Fahrenheit!).

I’m looking forward to spring when we don’t have to text each other at 7:15 canceling because of snow.

Over the weekend, my roommate Carly and I had a sculpey party. We invited some crafty ladies over to our apartment and made beads for hours. It was great to see what all of our friends came up with. We relaxed with snacks and beer, and ended up crafting well into the evening. Pictured above are some of our creations. Carly even made a special banner for our wall!
